3-day Clinic with Steve Mitchell

Train with US Sailing ILCA Olympic Coach, Steve Mitchell

This is a unique opportunity to attend a clinic with a top US Sailing ILCA Olympic coach, Steve Mitchell, without traveling to the mainland. Steve is excited to meet and engage you with a fun-packed learning agenda for three days in Kaneohe Bay.

Steve Mitchell was born in England and now lives in Toronto, Canada. He was a member of the British Sailing Team from 2001 – 2007 sailing with Ian Percy. Together they were the 2002 Star World Champions, 6th at Athens 2004 Olympic Games, and the 2005 Star European Champions.

Steve went on to coach at the Beijing 2008 Olympics for Russia, followed by coaching the London 2012 Olympic Games for Canada. He also coached at the Toronto 2015 Pan-Ams for Canada, the Rio Olympic Games for Canada, and most recently, the Tokyo 2021 Olympic Games for USA.

Many of our HYSA sailors have been coached by Steve at CISA and US Sailing events. Steve coached the last two years' HYSA Advanced ILCA Clinic, and we encourage you to join us in another round of advanced sailing instructions with the best of the best ILCA coaches!!

Who Should Participate:

For the intermediate and advanced junior laser sailors looking to improve their boat handling skills, starts, racing tactics, and course awareness. You will be challenged, encouraged, and pushed to level up your sailing skills. Adult sailors are welcome if space becomes available.

Clinic Hours - May 31 - June 2, 2025 (Saturday - Monday)

8:30 am to 5:00 pm

Rigged & Ready at 8:30 am

Clinic Fees: (the clinic will be limited to 20 sailors on any one day)

Registration Closes on May 4th, 11:59 pm

3-Day Clinic Fee: $200

2-Day Clinic Fee: $140

1-Day Clinic Fee: $75

**Due to planning purposes, there will not be a late registration deadline or late fee. Junior sailors must register by May 4th. Adult sailors, see the info below.

Registration for ADULT Sailors:

Adults are welcome to attend the clinic. Please register to secure your spot by May 4th, however, we will confirm your attendance by May 6th, after junior sailors get the opportunity to register first. If space is NOT available, we will issue a full refund.

1. What to Bring:

Sailing gear - PFD, gloves, rash guard, UV-rated sunglasses, sunscreen, water bottle.

(Be prepared to provide your lunch. At this time of printing, HYSA is still in the planning stage on this topic. We welcome parent volunteers to assist in potluck snacks, fruits, or other food items. We will send an email to coordinate with you before the event. There will be at least one of the days where HYSA will sponsor the lunch or debrief event)
